ECOC’ 04 exhibition a great success for Phoenix

ECOC ’04 provided the opportunity for Phoenix to meet with, and show the full product range to, customers. The current product range received a lot of interest because of the high performance offered compared to competitors, and the future array product section stimulated excitement for a diverse range of applications across several market sectors. The show is a good indicator of market condition, Dean Giles Manufacturing Director who spent 6 days in Stockholm says “It was very useful being at this year’s show there is much more optimism regarding market conditions than we have seen for several years which supports the increasing order intake we have been experiencing over the last months”.

Successful launch of Polarization Control range of products

The new range of polarization control products from Phoenix has received the ‘thumbs up’ from initial customers, Lee Giles Business Director of Phoenix Photonics said today. ‘The range, developed in response to customer requests for a flexible component based polarization control capability, gives high flexibility in the manipulation of the state of polarization. We have reviewed the success of the launch, the result of which are pleasing. Customers receiving the first production units have found these novel devices to be very useful. We anticipate increasing demand for this product range and derivative products now under discussion – I am very pleased!’

Phoenix high grade polarization products leaves competitors floundering.

Phoenix recent release of high grade polarizers and depolarizers has left competitors stunned.

Recent advances made by the Phoenix technical team have further enhanced performance achievable from their all-fiber polarizers, close to theoretical limits, in production capacity. Michael Mondanos, Chief Scientist at Phoenix explained, ‘The evanescent field approach is generally accepted to be the preferred product technology because similar performance cannot be achieved through the use of other technologies. We have now developed the design and production techniques to give close to theoretical limit performance. We also have sufficient understanding, coupled with fabrication flexibility to meet most application demands. Even competitors with similar technology capabilities will struggle to meet this new standard set by Phoenix polarizers.’

Phoenix continues to pursue its strategy to gain major share of the polarizer and depolarizer markets, by offering the best price/performance devices available to the discerning customer.

High Grade Polarizer

Phoenix Photonics has enhanced its range of all-fiber Polarizers by developing a high-grade version. Using the unique evanescent field technology the devices have virtually zero back reflection and high extinction ratios. Following market demand, these new editions have been designed to offer the highest specification Polarizer currently available, with extinction ratios to measurement limits combined with low excess loss. The Polarizers are suitable for a number of applications requiring high polarization state definition.

High Grade Depolarizer

Phoenix Photonics has introduced a range of high-grade Depolarizers to enhance its current standard Lyot type devices. Based on the company’s standard range of depolarizers the high-grade devices have been specifically developed for applications in which the degree of polarization (DOP) is critical to system performance. The proprietary manufacturing and packaging techniques developed by Phoenix enable very low DOP to be achieved. Two grades are available depending on application requirements giving <1% and <0.25% DOP. The Depolarizers are available in ruggedized packaging or for OEM integration.

DTI R&D grant award

Phoenix Photonics has won a second UK DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) R&D grant award to develop a cutting edge all-fiber solution to polarization measurement. This prestigious award will enable Phoenix to develop a key module for measurement of the state of polarization with minimum effect on the transmission, providing a valuable capability to fiber system engineers. The technology is based on a new concept being pursued by Phoenix to provide low cost, compact integrated all-fiber modules.
